Arching, narrow leaves and trailing plantlets suit a shelf or stand with room around it. The plant prefers medium light and should be kept out of direct sunlight.
It grows well in moist, well-drained conditions. Leave space beyond the pot for the leaves to arch and the plantlets to trail.
Aspidistra elatior
Cast-iron plant
Broad, upright leaves make a different shape from a trailing plant. Cast-iron plant tolerates lower light and shade, but direct sun can damage its leaves.
It grows in containers with well-drained soil. Leave enough space for the clump rather than fitting the plant tightly against a wall or piece of furniture.
