Two different jobs
The growing pot and the outer pot.
A growing container holds the root system and growing medium. A decorative outer pot may be chosen for appearance. When one sits inside the other, leave a way to check drainage and remove collected water.
Choose the container around the plant’s requirements and the space where it will stand. A heavy pot, a narrow shelf and an expanding plant need to be considered together.
The setting
An outdoor pot has its own conditions.
Sun, wind and the material of a container affect how quickly it dries. A sheltered indoor position is different from an exposed patio. The plant notes explain the starting conditions for the examples here.
