A rectangular table presents two separate questions: what is happening to the top, and how is the frame behaving?

Points for examination

Record the position of marks, differences in sheen and changes around edges. Do not assign a finish from a photograph.

Check how the legs, rails and top connect, including any movement or signs of earlier repair.

Agree which signs of wear should remain and which damaged areas are the focus of the proposal.

Separate any structural repair from optional surface changes, so each decision can be reviewed.

Maker, period, material species and treatment history remain unassigned unless supporting information establishes them.
